The Church

Church in gothic style

What does the Bible really say about the church?  Is the church a building, or a body of believers?  For many years people have wondered what the church was, and what it really stands for.  There are some scriptures in the Bible that talks about church, and the thousands of denominations that are listed under it.  Matthew 16:18 speaks of the church "And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not over come it."

Church can mean the assembly of people.  What does the Bible say about the assembly of God's people?  Romans 12:4-5 says "For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function so in Christ we though many, and each member belongs to another.  Can we forsake church and still have a relationship with Christ?

One Scripture that has always held my attention was Ephesians 4:12 it says " To equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up."  Many people of the church possess different spiritual gifts.  We all gather together in an assembly to worship God, and equip believers for the Lord's service.  There should be a fullness in the body of Jesus Christ.

"Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace.  And be thankful."  (Colossians 3:15)  We the members of the church have the responsibility to glorify God, and inform the world about the works of Jesus Christ.  We are to have unity, and work together for the sake of the kingdom.  "And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the first born, from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy" (Colossians 1:18

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her "  (Ephesians 5:25)
"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may the declare the blessings of him who called out of darkness into his wonderful light.  Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you ave received mercy."  (1Peter 2:9-10)

May God bless you with peace and prosperity.  Always remember that Jesus is still on the throne.
